pretty paper, new prints

added 5 new prints in my etsy shop. all on special paper that i spent way too long picking out, but sometimes paper is just so prettyyyyy.

have a couple more coming, too, just have to go back to the paper store first. if you don't hear from me for a while...well...now you know where i probably am

on a final, completely-off-topic note, WHOOO is on my roof and WHYYY are you stomping around like that?

updated site, cold udon + other important things

so this past weekend when new york had a mini heat wave, i retreated to the school computer labs (the best a/c in town, besides the movie theater) and got a chance to completely redesign and update my website. check it out here.

other then that i've just been busy ordering "cold udon" (actually i only did it once....learned my lesson....spent 10 minutes standing over a sink scooping ice cubes out of my dinner...)

when cold udon wasn't cutting it, my friend and i made semi-homemade pizza. looks better than it tasted but whateva.. 2 points for trying.

when nyc isn't melting me into a puddle, i like to walk the highline. so many pretty flowers. and i really want to get someone else's opinion on this: there are some sections of the highline that contain really really foul-smelling plant life. i need to befriend a botonist and get to the bottom of this (that rhymes...kindof)

but when i'm not doing any of those things, me and my coworkers decorate my boss's desk

i'm fighting every urge to just type "yay" and hold my hand down on the "a" key for a reaaaally long time. i told you i'm working on the professionalism thing, but....baby steps. YAY! i mentioned a while back that my poem "gutter rats" was chosen to be published in the june issue of Spillway magazine. well it finally showed up at my door last week!

happy genius

haven't posted a poem in a while, so here's a great one by William Carlos Williams

Danse Russe

If when my wife is sleeping
and the baby and Kathleen
are sleeping
and the sun is a flame-white disc
in silken mists
above shining trees,—
if I in my north room
dance naked, grotesquely
before my mirror
waving my shirt round my head
and singing softly to myself:
“I am lonely, lonely.
I was born to be lonely,
I am best so!”
If I admire my arms, my face,
my shoulders, flanks, buttocks
against the yellow drawn shades,—

Who shall say I am not
the happy genius of my household?

clare elsaesser

tooo in love with these paintings by clare elsaesser, a california artist i found through etsy. as soon as my bank account stops frowning hardcore i plan on getting an awesome sewn print

more breakfast, more light

photography calms me,
and i'm ridonkulously stressed lately,
so i'm shamelessly posting for the third time
pictures by my current favorite photographer brian ferry

i really don't know what it is about pictures of breakfast that make me so happy

sidenote: i had awesome french toast sunday morning
at this diner on 18th, and was in a great mood
for the rest of the day.

note: this is actually a post from months and months ago (though all info in it still stands true) that somehow i fudged up and it re-posted and i don't know why. oh well. enjoy it again :)

everything

been working a lot in pen and ink lately, i just love the contrast of simple black and white lines with bold bright ink colors.

^ i did this "summer myth" piece for a contest that was put on by one of my favorite illustrators (who i've wrote about previously) i didn't win but you can check out the awesome entries of those who did win here

sometimes i get so anxious and eager to paint something with gobs of paint on a canvas and if i don't i literally feel sick...dramatic i know, im sorry....but it's true. i ended up doing 3 canvas paintings on sunday, plus a hand painted tote bag!

tonight im working on a commission since i will be home this weekend for a wedding. i'll leave you with a few of my favorite pictures from july fourth

creeps and crafts

i've been rather crafty lately. ok this is actually a poor excuse for a craft so i shouldn't say that. i made an unintentionally super creepy girl to hang on our bathroom door (you know...to keep boys out). well i have no doubt it will keep the boys far far away.

the poor creep was done with my new neon acrylics (woo!) and microns (of course)

i also found some plain canvas tote bags i had bought over a year ago from Muji for a school project, and since my memory lasts as long as a tic tac i forgot about them. but now they've been decorated (with some lino-cut stamps i'd also made a while ago for school projects) and i'm thinking about putting them in the shop.

want one?

and this one i did with bright fabric paints:

been working on a lot of new things so i'll post more soon. happy fourth!! i'll be getting bitten alive by mosquitos and toasting to america with friends in brooklyn :) where will you be?

jess sokolowski

it's so cool to me that some of my favorite artists are good friends of mine. below are some photographs by photographer jess sokolowski, who just graduated from parsons school of design in may. jess has a lion-esque curly blonde mane, ever-present mosquito bites, an obsession with the color pink, and is a super talented photographer.

the above images are just a few of my favorites from her senior thesis work, which was on modern fairy tales. check out the rest of the series here
